Pandharpur, Jun 22 (PTI) The Fit India Sundays on Cycle’s Pandharpur edition to mark the 4th Akhil Maharashtra Pandharpur Cycle Wari Sammelan recorded the largest-ever cycling gathering in India with more than 5,000 enthusiasts coming together here.
Cyclists from more than 90 clubs from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh covered distances of up to 450 kilometres to make it to the event here, embarking on their arduous yet memorable journeys four to five days ago.
The event was jointly organised by the Mumbai Regional Centre of the Sports Authority of India and the Pandharpur Cycle Wari Sangh.
The cyclists “took part in the spiritually significant Nagar Pradakshina and the energetic Ringan Sohala, showcasing exemplary determination, devotion, and endurance,” the organisers informed in a release.
Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse and JB Gore, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Govt of Maharashtra, were among the guests at the event.
MP Dhairyasheel Mohite Patil, MLA Prashant Paricharak, MLC Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil and SAI Mumbai RC director Pandurang Chate were also present.
“The Railway Ground, Pandharpur, was transformed into a vibrant centre of energy and inspiration under the Fit India – Sundays on Cycle banner,” the organisers said.
“The event conveyed a powerful message promoting sustainable transport, community health, and spiritual unity — reinforcing that cycling is not just a sport, but a way of life aligned with a healthier and greener India,” they added. PTI DDV BNM
