Paris [France], May 26 (ANI): World No.2 Daniil Medvedev advanced to the third round at the ongoing French Open 2022 with a straight-sets win over Serbia’s Laslo Djere at Court Philippe-Chatrier on Thursday.

The second-seeded Russian defeated Djere 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.

The 26-year-old came back from a break down in the opening set, and needed a 15-and-a-half-minute game to break early in the third en route to a last-32 meeting with another Serbian, No.28 seed Miomir Kecmanovic.

Earlier, Casper Ruud equalled his best result at Roland Garros, moving past Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the third round for the fourth consecutive year. The eighth seed will aim to advance to the fourth round for the first time in the French capital when he takes on Portugal’s Joao Sousa.

In other early action, Holger Rune built on his standout win over 14th seed Denis Shapovalov by dispatching Switzerland’s Henri Laaksonen 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 51 minutes. (ANI)
