Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled its Bijnor district secretary Prabhat Yadav after serious allegations were made by a woman doctor in Bijnor. The doctor has accused him of blackmail, mental harassment and sexual exploitation. The case has triggered a political storm in the district, while the police have registered an FIR and begun an investigation based on her complaint.
As per police officials, the doctor lodged a complaint at Chandpur police station on Wednesday. In her statement, she alleged that after her husband’s death, Prabhat Yadav and his wife started visiting her clinic frequently. During this period, she claimed that he exploited her trust and allegedly added an intoxicating substance to her food.
In the FIR copy accessed by ThePrint, she further alleged that objectionable photos and videos of her were recorded while she was unconscious, and attempts were made later to extort money from her. She also alleged that she received death threats when she resisted. The doctor claimed she was subjected to prolonged mental and physical exploitation. She also added that she had informed both her parental and in-laws’ families about the matter and sought security so she could continue running her nursing home without fear.
As soon as news of the complaint broke, it reportedly created a stir within the BJP’s state unit. Following directions from the state high command, BJP district president Bhupendra Chauhan issued a letter announcing that Prabhat Yadav had been expelled from the party with immediate effect and relieved of all organisational responsibilities on grounds of indiscipline.
Bijnor’s Chandpur circle officer Desh Deepak told the media that an FIR had been registered based on the doctor’s complaint. He said the police are investigating the matter on the basis of available evidence and facts, and further action would be taken after the probe.
An FIR has been registered against Prabhat Yadav under several serious provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 123, 308(2), 351(3) and 75(2). Section 123 has been invoked over allegations that she was allegedly given an intoxicating substance to facilitate the alleged offence. Section 308(2) relates to extortion and has been added over accusations that the complainant was allegedly blackmailed and pressured for money using objectionable photos and videos. Section 351(3) deals with criminal intimidation, including threats to cause serious harm or death.
Apart from this, Section 75(2), linked to sexual harassment and exploitation of a woman has also been included in the FIR, based on the allegations made by the doctor.
Police say the case is under investigation and further action will depend on the evidence collected during the probe.
Meanwhile, Prabhat Yadav has denied all allegations, calling them baseless. The BJP leader claimed he shared family-like relations with the doctor and alleged he was being framed in a political conspiracy. He further claimed that another BJP leader had been blackmailing the doctor using his name. Following his statement, attention is now focused on the police investigation.
The controversy has also sparked a political debate. Opposition parties have questioned the BJP’s moral standing, while discussions within the party have intensified. A functionary in BJP’s Bijnor unit told ThePrint, “A faction within the party held a meeting in Chandpur and accused Prabhat Yadav and another leader of blackmailing the woman doctor through alleged obscene videos and extortion. However, a young party leader who made the allegations later retracted his statement the very next day. Later, the BJP district president constituted a three-member committee to investigate the matter. Action against Prabhat Yadav was reportedly taken after the inquiry report was submitted.”
