Chennai: Putting the speculation of an alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to rest, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emphasised that its founder Vijay will not accept the post of a deputy chief minister in another alliance.

K.A. Sengottaiyan, chief coordinator of TVK administrative committee, asserted that Vijay entered politics, leaving everything behind to be the chief minister, and will not accept any position below that.Vijay, he said Monday, entered politics after leaving his film career with the clear aim of serving the people as the chief minister.

“Vijay had entered politics with the aim of becoming the chief minister and there was no question of accepting a deputy chief minister post,” he told the media at Coimbatore International Airport.

His remarks came amid reports that the NDA had offered the Deputy Chief Minister post to Vijay and was offering 80-plus seats. Tamil Nadu will vote 23 April.

Sengottaiyan pointed to strong public support for the party. “Wherever he (Vijay) goes now, large numbers of people gather, which shows that the public in Tamil Nadu want a change.”

He also spoke about the current law and order situation in Tamil Nadu, claiming that women were not safe and that the people were living in fear. He expressed confidence that Vijay could bring the needed change.

Additionally, TVK propaganda secretary C.T.R.Nirmalkumar also issued a statement to end all speculations about a possible alliance.

“Recently, some false news has been spread in some media and social media platforms for political gain. In particular, the information that BJP/AIADMK or Sasikala and Ramadoss are being linked to the TVK and alliance talks are completely untrue,” Nirmalkumar posted in Tamil on ‘X’.

“It is stated that no negotiations have taken place at any level with specific parties and political leaders. We are stating it firmly.”

Accusing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of spreading such rumours to create confusion among the public and party workers, Nirmalkumar stated that similar fake news had been spread in the past, including links to the Congress.

The TVK functionary urged the media and social media users to act responsibly and not to share such reports without checking facts.

On Sunday, Leader of Opposition and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami also clarified that the NDA has not held talks with the TVK and, therefore, there cannot be an alliance.

Blaming media reports, he said that the rumours were being magnified and claims of alliance were being made. “The AIADMK does not have any contact with that party.”

Meanwhile, Sengottaiayan noted that the TVK has capable candidates ready to contest all 234 Assembly constituencies.

While some district secretaries had earlier shared views on possible alliances during internal discussions, the TVK has now ruled out any talks or alliance negotiations. The fledgling party continues to prepare independently for the elections with Vijay as its chief ministerial face.

The party, according to TVK insiders, has already readied a preliminary list of candidates for all seats and plans to focus on its own strength to address public concerns.

Meanwhile, BJP state chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy told ThePrint that the talks of a TVK-NDA tie-up was just a speculation, adding that there were no official talks between the two parties.
