New Delhi: Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said he had asked the PM to to pass on the benefit of the global oil price crash to Indian consumers, but instead “our genius” hiked excise duty on fuel.

His jibe at the prime minister came a day after the government hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by a steep Rs 3 per litre each to garner about Rs 39,000 crore additional revenue.

“Just 3 days ago I had requested @PMOIndia to pass on the benefit of the global oil price crash to Indian consumers, by slashing the prices of petrol & diesel in India. Instead of heeding this advice, our genius has gone and hiked #exciseduty on fuel!” Gandhi tweeted.

He also tagged a video of a press conference in which Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman purportedly avoids answering a question on why government has not passed on the benefits of the global oil crash to the people.

The former Congress president on Wednesday had accused Prime Minister Modi of being too busy “destabilising an elected government” to notice a crash in global oil prices this week.

“Hey @PMOIndia, while you were busy destabilising an elected Congress Govt, you may have missed noticing the 35 per cent crash in global oil prices.

“Could you please pass on the benefit to Indians by slashing #petrol prices to under 60? per litre? Will help boost the stalled economy,” the former Congress chief had said on twitter.

The Congress on Saturday had hit out at the government over the hike in excise duty on petrol and diesel, demanding that the benefit of reduced international crude oil prices should be passed on to the people.

  1. Never worked anywhere before. Even though gifted with MP position by family, just because he is great grand son, grand son and son of exPMs, he never took any responsibility, either as minister or in any committee, just spending time on folding his shirt sleeves on roads and going for vipasana foreign trips. How does anyone take him seriously, other than his own party workers and loyal oldies of congress party? Gandhi name is disaster for their party.

  2. Only people from Dynasty ARE GENIUS. NOBODY ELSE CAN. YOU TAKE AWAY LOOT ABROAD. HE IS REINVESTING ALL THIS IN INDIAN ECONOMY AND MAKE INDIA MILITARILY STRONG.

TODAY NEIGHBOURS PAKISTAN NOT ABLE TO BOMB OUR DELHI MARKET VARANASI MUMBAI AND J&K IS ALSO UNAPPROACHABLE FOR THEM. THEY ARE FINDING WAYS TO REACH SRINAGAR AND VALLEY BUT ARE BURIED AT THE BORDER ITSELF.

PAPPU IS GENIUS NOBODY ELSE CAN.

  3. This third grade idiot is talking all non sense. The but doesn’t understand what his own loyal servant called MMS once said that money does not grow on trees. After leaving the coffers empty, financial institutions in tatters where does he think money will come from to fund the many projects for the common man. His family, party ruled for 60 plus years but the poor remained poor and in every election his forefathers, down to him talked of removing poverty. This is because his family dis nothing except looting the nation of its resources. The family got richer and richer while the poor remained poor. The other day he was talking of people beating the prime minister with danda. Would the media accept if auch brazen, below the belt personal attacks on Rahul came from any BJP man ? Certainly not. The media would have mourned that for next 50 years, editorials would have been written, talk shows would have been hosted all criticising the BJP guy for using bad language against their revered Gandhi family. The fact is that this idiot and his family have still not been able to accept their successive loss in 2014 and 2019. How dare a truly aam admi, not from Gandhi family make it to the top and that too twice in a row ? The more and more he speaks the more and more he is exposed. Keep it up Rahul.

    • The stupid is back on his confusion about citizenship. Looks like the Moron badly needs a lesson on the subject of citizenship. May be also useful for the coming NPR in Indiia.

    • The responses from brainwashed bhakts are both amusing and tragic. Fuel prices are high despite oil at a record low, LPG prices shooting through the roof, one bank after another collapsing, economy down in the dumps, but the bhakt keeps chanting the same mantra.

  4. For once I agree with Rahul Gandhi and protest Modi action on the price of Petrol and Diesel. It is true that reducing the price will help economy to improve. Actually our Finance minister is a useless and main problem why our economy is not growing. She should be removed.
