New Delhi: Going digital against cow slaughter, Shankaracharya of the Jyotirmath Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has announced a scheme to purchase cows from Hindus across the country. Announcing the scheme in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Swami Avimukteshwaranand said Thursday that a website is being developed for this, where any livestock owner or trader wishing to sell cows would be able to place an advertisement.
“If any Hindu wishes to sell their cow, they should sell it to me; we are ready to buy. We will not allow cows to be slaughtered, nor will we permit any cow-slaughterers to purchase them. Muslims should not claim that if they stop consuming beef, the Hindu community will be put in danger,” Swami Avimukteshwaranand said.
The seer, a claimant to the title of Shankaracharya of the Jyotirmath (Jyotish Peeth) in Joshimath, Uttarakhand, is on a cow protection yatra in Uttar Pradesh which started in the first week of May and will continue till July.
Swamy Avimukteshwaranand said the website is being created solely at the behest of the Hindu community. “We have named it ‘Go-LX’,” he said. “People can sell their cows to us here. Individuals dedicated to cow protection will then purchase these cows and look after them.”
“Just like OLX platform, we are also making a similar website by fixing G before it, called Go-LX. By tomorrow or day after the website will be up and running. Anyone who wants to sell their cows can advertise there. We will contact you and we will buy the cow. We don’t want cows to be killed or slaughtered,” he said.
Referring to news stories that have been published on the issue, Avimukteshwaranand said Bengali Hindus from the trading community are out on the streets in West Bengal after Muslims refused to purchase cows as a result of the strict slaughter rules introduced recently. He said that a narrative is being propagated that Hindu livestock farmers will face an economic crisis if Muslims stop purchasing cows or give up consuming beef.
“Such news has been appearing daily to create a well-planned narrative that if such strict slaughtering rules are in operation for the cows then Hindu traders will suffer the most. This is completely incorrect. Hindus are not in the trade of slaughtering cows and those who are there are against the dharma. They don’t have the right to be called Hindus. Those who are not in fact Hindus have been running this trade using false names to bring a bad name to the rest of the Hindus,” he said.
The seer said any Hindu wishing to sell a cow can sell it directly to him.
He also pointed out that many people from the Hindu community have expressed a desire to purchase such cows and take care of them and earn blessings. He said that people dedicated to cow protection will purchase those cows and care for them.
“Hindus are ready to protect their gau mata. In fact this idea of starting such a website came from the Hindu community itself. If there is any such Hindu who has no option but to sell the cow to someone who will end up slaughtering the cow then we will purchase it from him. We will take care of the cows and earn good deeds. Any Hindu residing in West Bengal, Kerala or elsewhere will not have to worry about selling their cow – it can’t be eaten or slaughtered. This narrative which is being spread will be tackled by us,” he added.
He further said that the objective of the ‘Go-LX’ platform is to prevent cows from being sent to slaughterhouses under any circumstances.
“This platform will function on the lines of OLX, enabling individuals wishing to sell cows to establish contact. Gau sevaks (volunteers) and cow devotees will be able to purchase these cows for their protection. Numerous Hindu organisations and cow devotees from across the country have offered their support to this campaign. Cow protection is not merely a religious matter; rather, it stands as a symbol of Indian culture, compassion, and eternal human values,” he added.
