New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday asked Members of Parliament (MPs) to share with him the “real problems” being faced by the people, adding that people should not face “harassment” or “inconvenience” due to any law or rule as all measures are meant to be for people’s convenience, ThePrint has learnt.

The prime minister was addressing the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, where he pointed out that the country is now in a “full-fledged Reform Express phase”, wherein, he said, reforms are happening rapidly and with clear intent. Sources said he stressed on the fact that both “ease of life” and ease of doing business are the top priorities of the government.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, speaking to media persons after the meeting, said lawmakers were given clear guidelines by the prime minister on how to work for their states and regions.

“He spoke about implementing reforms in every sector to make life easier for the ordinary people. The PM said laws should not be a burden for anyone but should be for people’s convenience. Rules and regulations must be for improving the system, not to harass people,” Rijiju said.

The meeting was attended by all NDA MPs in Delhi. Modi said that the Centre’s reforms are completely “citizen-centric” and reforms, he said, should be brought in all aspects of the society, not limited to economy or being revenue-focused.

“The PM stressed that MPs should share the ‘real’ problems of the people with him too, so that they can be addressed smoothly. He said that our government’s ‘reform express’ should reach every home and should aim at addressing everyday difficulties. By removing everyday hurdles being faced by people, we can help them grow to their full potential,” said an MP.

The goal also emphasised the need to eliminate lengthy forms going in multiple places, as well as eliminate unnecessary paperwork. “The PM said we need to end the culture of 30–40-page forms and unnecessary paperwork. The idea, he said, is to provide services at the door of citizens and eliminate repeated data submissions. This will transform the lives of the people,” the MP added.

Citing an example, the prime minister said the government trusted citizens by allowing self-certification and this ‘trust has worked successfully for 10 years without misuse’.

During the meeting, NDA leaders congratulated the prime minister on the alliance’s victory in the Bihar polls and felicitated him. “At the Parliamentary Party meeting, on behalf of the entire NDA leadership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was felicitated with a victory garland and congratulated for the splendid victory in the Bihar elections,” Rijiju added.

The minister told reporters that the PM asked all NDA allies to work with “greater speed” and “unity” to take the country forward.
