‘Dear PM Modi, campaign for my opponent’ — DMK leaders’ cheeky request ahead of polls

In a coordinated strategy, several DMK leaders copy-pasted the same tweets, urging PM Modi to campaign for their opponents saying it will help widen their victory margin.

Kanyakumari: DMK candidates launched a cheeky Twitter campaign Friday tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a special request. They all wanted him to come and campaign for their opponents in AIADMK. They believe it will help increase their winning margin.

Leaders from Dharamapuri to Tiruvannamalai and Kanchipuram to Krishnagiri West, all tweeted in a coordinated IT cell campaign with an aim to pin the BJP and Modi with the outsider tag.

The trend first started Wednesday by Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, secretary of DMK’s environment wing, who also spearheaded the Jallikattu protests in 2017.

“Dear prime minister Mr Narendra Modi… pls campaign for Mr S.P. Velumani, local administration minister. I am the dmk candidate against him and it will be very useful for me if you support him. Thank you sir.”

Coordinated strategy by DMK IT wing

DMK leaders such as S.M. Raja, the incumbent MLA from Tambaram, E.V. Velu, Ambeth Kumar, A. Maharajan, Anitha Radhakrishnan and Y. Prakash, among others, posted the exact same message on Twitter.

Not just DMK leaders, but Congress candidate from Sriperumbudur, Selvaperunthagai K, also tweeted the same message Friday.

With only four days to go for polling, the DMK IT wing has ramped up its attack on the AIADMK-BJP coalition.

In a full-page newspaper advertisement Thursday, the DMK showed a scenario of what would happen if the AIADMK-BJP came to power.

It portrayed Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami as a “puppet” of Modi, and said the coalition would implement NEET for LKG students, rename Tamil Nadu as ‘Dakshin Pradesh’, and leave no vacancy for Tamils. It also showed an image of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman putting Tamil Nadu on sale, among other scenarios.

  1. From the way DMK is going after Palaniswami, including abusing his mother, and now this claim that Modi will bring down AIADMK shows that DMK is sensing that it will no be cakewalk for DMK, as they thought before. it appears AIADK has lots of support from poorer segments of society.
