New Delhi: Chandigarh Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dilsher Chandel has slammed Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu for allegedly lauding an MLA who makes “police wet their pants”. The DSP has described the remark as “shameful” and “an insult to the force”.
At a political rally held in Kapurthala’s Sultanpur Lodhi on 19 December, Sidhu, while sharing the stage with Congress MLA Navtej Singh Cheema, purportedly said that the latter “could make a police officer wet his pants”, and suggested that “party workers be like Navtej”.
In a video shared by ANI Saturday, which has gone viral on Twitter, DSP Chandel said Sidhu had insulted the very police force that “protects him and family”.

Chandel further said that if Sidhu has complaints then he should give up his police protection.
The DSP said Sidhu had defamed police personnel, when they are the ones “who make the public follow instructions of political leaders”. “Without them, even a rickshaw puller won’t obey any politician’s order,” he added.
Speaking to ThePrint, Chandel said he has shot off a defamation notice to Sidhu.
“I have sent a defamation notice to Sidhu. We are required to do that first. I will file an official complaint against him for his derogatory comments after 21 days,” he added.
No official complaints have been lodged against Sidhu in Chandigarh so far, Ravi Kumar Singh, personal assistant to Chandigarh Director General of Police Praveer Ranjan, told ThePrint. “We will take action if any such written complaint is filed,” he added.
In another video that went viral, Sub-Inspector Balbir Singh Doaba, who is posted in Jalandhar (rural), purportedly denounced Sidhu’s statement and requested the Punjab DGP to ensure that such “derogatory statements are not made as our kids and families also get hurt hearing this”.
