New Delhi: The Congress has launched a scathing attack on the retired civil servants, judges, army officers and diplomats who accused Rahul Gandhi of tarnishing the Election Commission’s image.
The principal opposition party alleged that many of those who targeted Rahul are either members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), while some face “grave corruption cases”.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate made a series of social media posts levelling a string of allegations against the 272 signatories.
The Congress’s official account on ‘X’ also made posts attacking the signatories—16 former judges, 123 former civil servants and 133 former officers of the armed forces.

Shrinate lashed out at them, saying they had ignored the “glaring proof of voter fraud” shown by Rahul because they were themselves compromised.
“Is it because this list of 272 are mostly members of the BJP or are associated with the RSS, Vivekananda Foundation, India Foundation, and a large number of them face grave corruption cases?
“These are not people who care about our democracy. Attacking Rahul Gandhi is actually a quid pro quo for protection against their own cases,” she posted on X.
272 ‘EMINENT’ people have criticised Leader of the Opposition @RahulGandhi for exposing Vote Chori and raising pertinent questions before the Election Commission.
So who are these eminent people? Why are they not worried about glaring proof of voter fraud that Rahul Gandhi has… pic.twitter.com/zPUe6ZnWYs

Shrinate, who heads the Congress’s social media and digital platforms, said that although the signatories described themselves as eminent citizens, many were in fact BJP members.
Those she listed include Justice (retd.) P.M.Ravindran, former R&AW chief Sanjeev Tripathi, former Andhra Pradesh chief secretary I.Y.R Krishna Rao, former ambassador Bhaswati Mukherjee, former Kerala DGP T.P.Senkumar, former Jharkhand DGP Nirmal Kaur, former Karnataka chief secretary B.H. Anilkumar, former IPS officer Bhaskar Rao, Lt. Gen. D.P.Vats (retd.) and Major General P.C.Kharbanda (retd).
She also named former ambassador Virendra Gupta, retired judges Adarsh Kumar Goel and Hemant Gupta as members of the RSS-linked Antarrashtriya Sahayog Parishad, Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, respectively.
Additionally, she listed five signatories associated with either the India Foundation or the Vivekananda Foundation—both perceived as think tanks aligned with the ruling establishment. She further named seven individuals who allegedly face corruption charges.
“These are not people who care about our democracy. Attacking Rahul Gandhi is actually a quid pro quo for protection against their own cases. But India knows exactly what is happening and no effort to discredit Rahul ji will succeed,” Shrinate alleged.
The letter targeting Rahul had described his “vote chori” narrative as a “convenient deflection” meant to create the impression that election losses were due not to strategy but to conspiracy.
“India’s democracy rests on institutions built by our founding generation, who engaged in principled and disciplined politics even under the most serious differences. They defended the sanctity of democratic structures even when they had every reason to question them. They sought to strengthen, not undermine, the constitutional bedrock,” the letter stated.
