New Delhi: Pramod Sawant will continue as chief minister of Goa, the state BJP announced Monday after its legislature meet Monday evening.
The meeting was attended by BJP central observers Narendra Singh Tomar and L Murugan and assembly poll in-charge Devendra Fadnavis.
Tomar said Sawant’s selection was unanimous, adding, the party will now stake claim to form the government in Goa.
BJP MLA Subhash Pal Desai had said Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi fully endorsed a second term for Sawant.
In the recently concluded state Assembly polls, the BJP emerged as the single largest party in Goa, winning 20 seats in the 40-member state Assembly. The Congress could manage 11 seats.
The BJP fell one seat short of the majority figure in Goa but is set to retain power with the help of two MLAs from the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three independents.
