The PM has asked party colleagues to post photographs of cleanliness drive on the Narendra Modi App on 17 Sept.
Swachh Abhiyan, a mission close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s heart, will be the theme of his 67th birthday. The PM has appealed to his party leaders to clean their surroundings and post photographs of their activity on the Narendra Modi App on 17 September.
MPs, MLAs, office-bearers in state units and councillors have been asked to ensure that the programme is effective and not just ‘symbolic’. The party will closely monitor the photographs sent by the leaders.
“It has been observed that party leaders often pose for photographs with brooms in their hands. They also choose a spot which is already clean. There is no genuine ‘shram daan’ as has been asked by the PM. Keeping this in mind, the leaders have been asked to avoid such optics,” said a senior BJP leader.
The PM has called upon the nation to begin a campaign, ‘Swachhata hi Sewa’, (cleanliness is service) from 15 September till Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October, through ‘Mann ki Baat’ last month.
He wants the BJP leaders to clean hospitals, school premises, parks, community halls, bus stands and statues of eminent people.
Apart from this, public representatives and party post holders have to participate in a plantation drive and organise medical camps for slum-dwellers. The BJP has asked all its functionaries to chalk out their plans and make these three programmes a success.
The party units will have to rope in NGOs like Lions Club and Rotary Club to organise medical camps. The health wing of the party has to take a lead in holding these camps.
