Zee News questions Mamata on Nusrat Jahan controversy, NDTV tracks farmers’ protests

A quick take on what prime time TV news talked about.

New Delhi: From protests against the passage of farm bills in the Rajya Sabha to Covid vaccines, a discussion on the CBI probe into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and outrage against Lok Sabha MP Nusrat Jahan dressing as Durga, prime time on Monday had more variety than usual.

On India Today, anchor Rajdeep Sardesai spoke to World Health Organization’s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan and epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove on the future of the pandemic and if the worst was yet to come. On the announcement of various vaccines from China, Russia and the US, Sardesai asked Swaminathan, “How seriously should we be looking at all these deadlines and timelines being spoken about?”

She diplomatically replied, “We are tracking all the vaccine trials going on over the world and it is true that there are several Chinese vaccines that have entered Phase 3 of clinical trials… We need to wait for the results of the trials to come out and be optimistic.”

News 18 India‘s Amish Devgan discussed the Opposition’s “political network of myths” on various government issues. “Whether it was the Citizenship Amendment Bill, Rafale deal and now the farm bills, is it the government or the Opposition that is spreading myths?” he asked. Is this a trick question?

Devgan then asked the BJP’s Sudhanshu Trivedi whether the party fails to convince even its alliance partner on various issues. “We don’t have a problem with the Opposition spreading lies and myths, it is meaningless until the public accepts it, which it hasn’t,” Trivedi responded, evasively.

On NDTV India, anchor Naghma Sahar showed footage of farmers across India continuing their protests against the farm bills that were just passed amid chaos in the Rajya Sabha.

Sahar also noted that the incident of Youth Congress leaders burning a tractor at India Gate was an “unlawful” activity at the “safest place in Delhi”, and asked why it wasn’t stopped.

Meanwhile, Zee News‘ Aman Chopra discussed why Lok Sabha MP from Trinamool Congress Nusrat Jahan was threatened after sharing posts on social media in which she was dressed as Hindu deity Durga.

“And why is Didi silent? Is she worried about her vote bank and thus not taking the side of her own MP?” asked Chopra, referring to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, “I’ll tell you why Didi is silent. She herself has acknowledged that the Muslim community is like the milk-giving cow for her, and she is even ready to get kicked by that cow.” Okay, then.

And finally, predictably, Republic TV‘s Arnab Goswami gave all other issues a wide berth and stuck to #SushantJusticeNow. He said, “I thank you for your support, viewers, and I need more of it. And I promise you that, like we fought to ensure #CBIForSSR, we are fighting to ensure the truth is not buried.”
