The selected cartoons appeared first in other publications, either in print or online, or on social media, and are credited appropriately.

The lead cartoon, by Satish Acharya for Sify, showcases a map of India where Karnataka is about to be painted saffron as Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi watch. Blue, indicating Congress-ruled states, dots just three other states/union territories, while the rest of the country is saffron.
Manjul’s cartoon for Firstpost is a dig at Congress president Rahul Gandhi as well as his party members, who look all set to absolve him of yet another electoral defeat.  In Gujarat, the Congress claimed a moral victory for having reduced the BJP to a double-digit tally, a bid to shielf Rahul from criticism.
Kirtish Bhatt’s cartoon for BBC Hindi also seeks to poke fun at the Congress, which yet again finds itself on the losing side in an important election. It suggests that Congress leaders didn’t believe exit poll results and couldn’t believe the real result.
The next cartoon, by Bhuvanan, depicts the CPI(M) being chased by the ghost of ‘murder politics’ as the party blames the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal for violence during the panchayat elections. The CPI(M) had, in its three-decade rule in the state, earned a reputation for unleashing violence during polls.
