In today’s featured cartoon, Manjul takes a dig at developments over the past 7 1/2 years under the Narendra Modi government as he comments on the decision to install a “grand statue” of Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate in Delhi. A temporary hologram statue was unveiled on 23 January — the freedom fighter’s 125th birth anniversary — and is to be in place until the final granite work is completed.

Satish Acharya | Twitter/@satishacharya

Satish Acharya alludes to PM Modi’s promises of prosperity in the light of another symbolic move, in which the iconic Amar Jawan Jyoti flame at India Gate — established in 1972 to commemorate soldiers killed during the India-Pakistan war the previous year — was taken and merged with the eternal flame at the National War Memorial, 400 metres away.

Sajith Kumar | Deccan Herald

Sajith Kumar pokes fun at the Congress in Goa, which had its candidates make a pledge of loyalty before God that they would not defect to other parties if elected in the upcoming state assembly polls.

R. Prasad | Economic Times

R. Prasad also comments on the Modi government’s decision to install a statue of Subhas Chandra Bose, who resigned as Congress president in 1939 after facing opposition from Mahatma Gandhi.

E.P. Unny | The Indian Express

E.P. Unny draws on the Centre’s decision to drop the Christian hymn ‘Abide with Me’ from the Beating Retreat ceremony this year.
