New Delhi: A Delhi court Saturday ordered a stay on the release of a Bollywood film after former ICICI Bank MD and CEO Chandra Kochhar filed a plea against it, stating that her consent was not obtained for the alleged biopic.
Kochhar approached the court after she came across promotional interviews of the lead female actor of the film, titled Chanda: A Signature that Ruined a Career, talking about how she emulated the former corporate honcho in the biopic.
In his order, additional district judge Sandeep Garg directed that producers and everyone associated with the movie will not release the movie “online or offline” and also not take Kochhar’s name “directly or indirectly”.
The order came after Kochhar’s counsel argued that the film is “defamatory”.
It was argued that Kochhar was “shown as a culprit though the trial is pending and no charge sheet has been filed against her and trial is yet to begin”.
The former ICICI Bank chief has been under the scanner for her alleged involvement in the Rs 1,875-crore Videocon loan case.
Such biopics and their release as well as promotional interviews and material vilifying Kochhar were extremely “prejudicial to the investigation as well as the trial”, said the plea.
Gurleen Chopra is the lead in the film directed by Ajay Singh, and produced by Manoj Nandwana and S. Akhileswaran. It also stars actors Pushpendra Tiwari and Aditya Verma in key roles, according to an IANS report.
The case will next be heard at the Patiala House Courts on 26 November.
