Chandigarh, Aug 3 (PTI) The Chandigarh State Branch of the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) on Monday organised an inclusive nature study tour at Thapli nature camp in Morni Hills for children with disabilities and those from economically weaker section (EWS) families studying in government schools.
Around 120 children participated in the programme, including about 80 children with single and multiple disabilities and 40 children from EWS families.
Parents and caregivers of children with disabilities also joined the event.
The programme aimed to provide children from different backgrounds and abilities an opportunity to learn about nature, interact with one another and take part in outdoor activities together.
The participants reached the camp in the morning and were welcomed by YHAI Chandigarh State Branch office-bearers, including Organising Secretary Radhe Shyam, Convener Rajesh Jogpal and North Chandigarh Unit Convener Abhishek Mehta.
The children were encouraged to enjoy nature responsibly without disturbing plants, birds or wildlife.
One of the main attractions was a Nature Treasure Hunt, during which children were divided into four groups and taken on guided nature trails. They observed seeds, flowers, fruits, insects, butterflies, birds and other natural objects.
Safety instructions were given because of the rainy season, and participants were asked to stay with their groups while walking on slippery trails.
Children participated enthusiastically in group dances, with children having hearing and speech disabilities joining through sign language and visual signals.
Organisers said the activity highlighted the importance of inclusion and equal participation.
The organisers said the programme was aimed at promoting environmental awareness, confidence, teamwork and inclusion.
They added that children from different backgrounds spent the day learning, playing and exploring together, demonstrating that equal opportunities and proper support enable every child to participate and succeed.
