New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Monday said the younger generation has the potential to determine the course of India’s progress in fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, clean energy, chemicals, climate action, and innovation.

Addressing the valedictory ceremony of the National Technology Day celebrations at the University of Delhi, Sandhu said India possesses a rich scientific tradition spanning mathematics, astronomy, and medicine, with a legacy of knowledge predating modern institutions by centuries.

“For modern India, advancing technology is not merely a challenge; it also presents a tremendous opportunity for institutions and society,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the growing urban challenges, such as pollution and water stress, and emphasised the need for collaboration between scientific institutions and urban planners.

“Scientific institutions and urban planners must work together to foster climate-smart processes and promote green infrastructure,” he said.

The event was presided over by Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh.

“National Technology Day reminds us that we must never compromise on technology,” Singh said, adding that higher educational institutions should focus on innovation, originality, and creativity to strengthen research and entrepreneurship.

NITI Aayog member Gobardhan Das, meanwhile, said sage Maharshi Kanada had propounded the atomic theory around 2,500 years before English chemist John Dalton, while addressing the National Technology Day celebrations at DU. PTI AHD RHL
