Jammu, Sep 3 (PTI) A Shobha Yatra was taken out in Jammu on Thursday ahead of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, with devotees participating in the procession that commenced from the historic Raghunath temple amid religious fervour and traditional gaiety.
Organised in collaboration with the Sanatan Dharm Sabha and Dharmik Yuvak Mandal, the procession featured beautifully decorated tableaux depicting various episodes from Lord Krishna’s life, attracting large crowds along its route.
The Shobha Yatra commenced after Murti Poojan at Shri Raghunath temple, which was attended by MLA Yudhvir Sethi and former minister Priya Sethi. Rath Poojan and Dhwajarohan ceremonies were performed before the procession set off from the temple premises.
The Yatra passed through several prominent markets and thoroughfares, including Veer Marg, Shahidi Chowk, Rajinder Bazar, Kanak Mandi, City Chowk, Old Hospital Road, Purani Mandi, Link Road and Jain Bazar before culminating at Raghunath temple.
Devotees, political leaders and representatives of social and religious organisations participated in the procession. Members of the Muslim community also accorded a warm welcome to the Yatra at several places along the route, highlighting Jammu’s tradition of communal harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, Dharmarth Trust president P S Pathania extended greetings to the people on Krishna Janmashtami and prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said festivals were an integral part of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage and played an important role in strengthening communal harmony, brotherhood and social cohesion.
Senior police officers remained deployed at various locations to supervise the arrangements and ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Shobha Yatra. PTI AB SHS
