Mumbai, Sep 26 (PTI) Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi on Saturday said no truck carrying garbage from Deonar dumping ground will be allowed to pass through his Mankhurd Shivajinagar constituency since it could cause chronic traffic congestion and adversely impact the lives of people.
The Deonar dumping ground is one of the many sites proposed for rehabilitation of residents under the massive Dharavi redevelopment project being carried out by an Adani group firm.
Addressing a news conference here, Azmi said around 1,200 trucks carrying 10,000 tonnes of garbage will pass through GM Link Road everyday. The road already witnesses chronic traffic congestion and accidents are frequent, he said.
Amzi said the garbage being moved from Deonar dumping ground will contain methane gas and dust, which will be harmful for residents.
If 1,200 trucks carrying garbage will use the same road then it will further aggravate problems and cause law and order issues, the MLA claimed.
“We will not allow the trucks to pass,” Azmi warned while asserting that authorities haven’t informed him about the proposed heightened vehicular movement.
He suggested that a bridge be built over the creek on the border of the dumping ground in order to divert the traffic through Ghatkopar. PTI PR BNM
