Woman trampled to death by wild elephant in Jharkhand’s Giridih

Giridih, May 9 (PTI) A woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Saturday, police said.

The incident took place in the nearby forest area of Bangrakala village within the Birni police station limits. The deceased was identified as Rajiya Devi (50), a resident of the same village, they said.

“The victim died after a wild elephant attacked her in the forest area. The victim’s body was sent to Sadar Hospital, Giridih, for post-mortem examination,” said Akash Kumar, the officer in charge of Birni police station.

Forest officials also reached the spot. They provided the deceased’s family with a cheque of Rs 50,000 as immediate relief, while the rest of the compensation amount will be given after completing the paperwork, the OC said.
