Woman killed after motorcycle tyre gets stuck in road crack

Beed (Maharashtra), Jun 19 (PTI) A 51-year-old woman was killed after the motorcycle on which she was riding pillion skidded as its tyre got stuck in a large crack at Lahamewadi on Majalgaon-Telgaon cement road in the district, police said.

The accident, which took place on Wednesday night, highlighted the dangerous condition of the stretch, where locals claim more than 40 people have lost their lives over the past five years.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Manisha Namdev Thete, a resident of Rajewadi village in Majalgaon tehsil.

Manisha and her husband had travelled to Majalgaon to shop for clothes and the accident took place when they were returning.

The motorbike’s front tyre got caught in a wide crack, causing both of them to fall. Manisha suffered severe head injuries and died before reaching hospital.

The Majalgaon Rural Police have registered the case as an accidental death. PTI COR KRK
