Jabalpur, Apr 23 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman and her relative, a minor girl, drowned after slipping into a canal while filming a reel in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district on Thursday morning, police and local residents said.
Their another kin, who also fell into the canal, is missing, police said.
The incident occurred between 8 am and 9 am in Salibada village under Bargi police station limits, area city superintendent of police (CSP) Anjul Ayank Mishra told PTI over phone.
Four females, all relatives, lost balance and fell into the fast-flowing water of Bargi dam’s canal in the district. One of them managed to swim to safety, he added.
Local divers and rescuers from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) retrieved the bodies of two of them, Sheetal Patel (20) and her relative Saniya (8), from the canal after four hours of efforts, informed the CSP.
Efforts were on to locate their missing relative Tanu Patel (18), said the police officer.
Additional Superintendent of Police (rural) Suryakant Sharma told reporters that the victims had come to the village to attend a wedding.
According to local residents, five females went to the canal and four of them were filming a video near the edge when they slipped and fell into the water body. PTI LAL RSY
