Mumbai, Jul 24 (PTI) A woman was arrested in connection with the firing of a pistol by a 12-year-old boy, a Mumbai police official said on Thursday.

The firing incident had taken place on June 27 and the boy had claimed he found the firearm in a garbage heap in the vicinity, the Dahisar police station official said.

“We have arrested Sangita Nair, who is the owner of the pistol. She has a criminal background. The boy had gone to Nair’s house along with his aunt, who works there as a domestic help. He found a pistol in the cupboard and brought it home,” the official said.

“He accidentally fired the pistol while showing it to his friends. After this, he fled from the scene, leaving the pistol behind. Nair has been arrested under Arms Act. Further probe into the antecedents of the pistol is underway,” the official said. PTI ZA BNM
