Bhind (MP), Apr 15 (PTI) A 53-year-old woman was killed and three of her family members were injured after a fire broke out in a furniture and electronics showroom at a building in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district in the wee hours of Wednesday, police said.
The blaze erupted around 1.30 am in the showroom located on the ground and first floors of the building on Porsa Road under the Gormi police station area, they said.
The showroom owner and his family lived on the top floor of the building. The fire spread so rapidly that it engulfed the upper floors as well, Gormi Police Station in-charge Ashutosh Sharma said.
After being alerted, three fire engines from Bhind, Mehgaon and Gormi were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control after hectic efforts for four to five hours, Sharma said.
By then, the wooden furniture and paint valued at lakhs of rupees kept in the showroom had been completely burnt to ashes, he said.
Sunita Upadhyay, the wife of showroom owner Arun Upadhyay, died due to smoke inhalation. Arun, his son Vasu, and nine-year-old grandson Lucky were injured, the official said.
The injured persons were shifted to the Bhind District Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate a short circuit as the cause of the fire, the police said. PTI COR MAS GK
