New Delhi, Oct 10 (PTI) Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai said on Saturday said “we will fill the jails”, but the movement will continue as the party held a protest at its office here against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The AAP had also announced a protest at Jantar Mantar along with the CJP, but held its demonstration at the party office after Delhi Police denied permission for the protest and stepped up security deployment at several locations across the national capital, preventing people from reaching the protest site.

Leading the protest, Rai alleged that the country was witnessing a “black emergency” and said the detention of students and political leaders would not stop the agitation.

“We will go to jail, fill the jails, but the movement will continue,” Rai said.

“They are detaining students and leaders. There will be protests across the country, and the jails will run out of space,” he said, adding that the country had seen the consequences of authoritarianism in the past.

Protesters raised slogans such as “Vote chor, gaddi chhor” and “Loktantra mein tanashahi nahi chalegi (No dictatorship in democracy)”.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
