Malappuram (Keralam), Oct 11 (PTI) An elderly woman died, and three others sustained injuries in a wild boar attack here on Sunday, police said.

Police identified the deceased as PK Fathima (60) of East Chathaloor, Edavanna. The injured are Muhammad Ali, Hameed and VP Abdullah.

The incident occurred when a group of people were on their way to a religious centre for dawn prayers and encountered a sounder of wild boars.

Fathima and Ali, who were walking at the front, were the first to be attacked, following which the wild boars charged at the others, police said.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Fathima succumbed to her injuries, police said.

The other three sustained minor injuries and will be discharged after completing their medical examinations, police said.

Wild boars are frequently spotted in the area, and residents have often complained about the animals raiding crops, police said. PTI TBA TBA ADB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
