New Delhi, Oct 10 (PTI) The Vishva Hindu Parishad on Saturday questioned the source of funding for a protest at Jantar Mantar here, alleging that huge sums of money are being spent to organise it.

It also appealed to citizens to “support security forces” by acting as their “shield”, as well as eyes, nose and ears.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), along with Left student organisations and other groups, has called for a protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a post on X, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) national spokesperson Vinod Bansal claimed that 10 to 15 lawyers appeared in the Supreme Court on Friday in connection with a hearing over the authorities’ decision to shut down train and metro services in view of the proposed protest. He alleged that each of them charges between Rs 1 crore and Rs 2 crore per hearing.

“Who paid Rs 15 crore to Rs 30 crore to these lawyers for this single hearing? Who are the people playing this game behind the scenes? There is massive funding for these protests,” he said.

Bansal also alleged that a party linked to the Ford Foundation will be part of the protest, without naming the party or providing evidence to substantiate his claim.

“Who are the people playing this game behind the curtain? Massive funding is pouring in for these protests. A particular party linked to the Ford Foundation will also be part of this so-called demonstration,” he alleged.

He further referred to the involvement of a prominent American industrialist and the US vice president in the matter, claiming that it indicates a larger effort to “undermine India’s sovereignty”.

“People of the country will have to carefully understand these anti-national designs that are attacking our sovereignty,” he alleged.

Calling for vigilance, Bansal urged citizens to remain alert to “attempts” to turn India into Nepal or Bangladesh.

He said that while police and security forces are present on the ground, citizens should support them through other means and act as their “eyes, ears, nose and shield”. PTI ADI PRK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
