Meerut (UP), Jun 24 (PTI) Police and administrative officials carried out a special verification drive in slum clusters in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut as part of efforts to strengthen security and maintain law and order, officials said on Wednesday.
Following orders from senior police officers, teams conducted the operation on Tuesday night. During the drive, authorities verified the identities of residents living in around 15-20 huts and shanties set up along the road.
Teams comprising police personnel, local administration officials and intelligence units visited the settlement and collected details of the residents, including their names, addresses, native places and identity documents.
The police said most of the families residing in the settlement were from Assam. Aadhaar cards and other records were also examined during the verification process.
Details of all individuals and families covered during the exercise have been entered into police records to facilitate future identification and verification, if required, they added.
