Nainital, Apr 22 (PTI) A 50-year-old woman was killed by a wild animal in a forest near Jeoli village of Bhimtal on Wednesday morning, officials said.
The victim, Hema Pandey, had gone to the forest as part of her daily routine to collect fodder. Locals and witnesses suspect a leopard carried out the attack.
Gram Pradhan Shekhar Chandra Bhatt said other women present at the spot reported the attack. Villagers later recovered the mutilated body from the forest.
The incident has triggered panic in the area. Villagers noted that similar attacks occurred recently in Chopra and nearby areas, leading to growing anger over the lack of a permanent solution.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Akash Gangwar said, “The matter is under investigation. Patrolling in the area has been intensified, and residents have been advised to remain vigilant.” Bhimtal Block Pramukh Harish Bisht said they have informed administration authorities about the incident.
