Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), Apr 17 (PTI) The Pithoragarh district administration on Friday asked the Indo-Tibetan Border Police to probe reports of pilgrims entering restricted border areas near Adi Kailash without mandatory Inner Line Permits.
Dharchula Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ashish Joshi said ITBP officials have been asked to investigate the matter and clarify the ground situation following social media reports of unauthorised entry into the sensitive zone.
“Reports on social media suggest some pilgrims travelled beyond Chialekh in Vyas Valley into restricted zones without permits,” Joshi said, adding that ITBP officials have been asked to submit a probe report within five days.
Inner Line Permits remain mandatory for all Adi Kailash pilgrims. Entry into these high-altitude zones remains restricted to local residents and security forces, the official added.
Social media posts alleged transporters bypassed ITBP security personnel recently to ferry pilgrims into the restricted Adi Kailash region.
Meanwhile, Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, the nodal agency for the pilgrimage, announced the yatra commences on May 8.
Dharchula base camp in-charge Dhan Singh said 15 batches of pilgrims will visit Adi Kailash in the first phase, concluding on July 1. PTI DPT AKY AKY SHS SHS
