Nainital, Aug 19 (PTI) The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Dehradun District Magistrate to examine the citizenship application and related documents submitted by a person of Tibetan origin and take necessary action as per law within six months.

A single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari gave the order while hearing the petition of Tenzin Thinley.

The petitioner told the court that he had applied for Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Act, 1955, but the Dehradun District Magistrate’s office had not yet forwarded his application to the competent authority of the Central government.

He then approached the high court.

The petitioner requested the authorities to forward the application and issue necessary directions regarding the issuance of Indian citizenship.

A request was also made to bring the records related to the case before the court.

During the hearing, the court was told that Tenzin Thinley was born on September 15, 1992, and he came to India through Tibet on May 12, 2013.

The court directed the Dehradun district magistrate to examine the citizenship application and all documents attached with it.

It said that if the application and documents are found to comply with the prescribed legal requirements upon scrutiny, the district magistrate shall forward them to the competent authority of the Central government within six weeks from the date of receipt of a certified copy of the order. Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
