Dehradun, Jul 11 (PTI) Uttrakhand Police recovered dynamite weighing 125 kg from a car in the Tyuni area of Dehradun district and arrested three people in this regard, an official said on Friday.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh said that on Thursday, the police stopped an Alto car with a Himachal Pradesh registration number while conducting a checking drive ahead of the panchayat elections in the state.

He said that during the search of the vehicle, the dynamite kept in five boxes was recovered.

The officer stated that the car’s occupants, Rinku (37), Sunil (38), and Rohit (19), were unable to produce the necessary documents to prove that they were in legal possession of the explosive material.

Subsequently, a case was registered under section 3/7 of the Explosives Act 1884, and they were arrested.

The arrested accused are all residents of Himachal Pradesh — Rinku and Sunil are from Shimla, while Rohit is from Sirmaur district, the official said.

Panchayat elections are to be held in two phases on July 24 and 28. PTI DPT AMJ AMJ
