Lucknow, May 26 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday appealed to people to use electricity according to their needs amid the ongoing energy crisis, saying the state government was working to ensure uninterrupted power supply despite rising demand and supply constraints.
Addressing a programme organised to mark three years of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation board, the chief minister said global energy supply chains had been affected while the electricity demand had increased sharply due to rising temperatures.
He said Uttar Pradesh’s peak power demand, which stood at 15,000-16,000 megawatts (MW) before 2017, had now risen to 32,000-33,000 MW.
At the same time, electricity generation in the state increased from around 6,000 MW to 13,000 MW, while renewable energy generation reached nearly 10,000 MW, he said.
Adityanath said the state’s total requirement was now between 33,000 and 35,000 MW and urged citizens not to be misled by rumours regarding the power situation.
“Consume only as much electricity as required,” he said, adding that many people had started using electric heaters for cooking due to the LPG supply crisis.
The chief minister also said “the double-engine government” would continue working to address all challenges related to power supply and infrastructure.
At the event held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Adityanath laid the foundation stones for 342 projects worth Rs 413 crore related to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation.
According to an official statement, the CM also released a booklet titled ‘Swachh, Sundar, Samarth Lucknow’.
The chief minister thanked people for electing BJP mayors in all 17 municipal corporations of the state, saying that this had enabled urban local bodies to implement development and cleanliness initiatives effectively.
He said public money should be spent only for public welfare and added that governments were responsible for the proper utilisation of taxpayers’ money.
Adityanath said Lucknow secured the third position in the national cleanliness rankings and appealed to citizens to cooperate in improving sanitation standards by segregating wet and dry waste, avoiding single-use plastic and refraining from dumping garbage into drains.
Referring to urban infrastructure projects, the chief minister said the state government had developed facilities such as green corridors, Metro rail services and the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Lucknow.
He also said a convention centre with a capacity of 10,000 people had been approved in Lucknow, and its tendering process had been completed.
The chief minister said municipal corporations were an important platform for resolving civic issues and highlighted projects such as integrated command and control centres, model cow shelters and stormwater management systems being implemented in urban areas.
Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and Urban Development Minister A K Sharma were among those present at the event. PTI KIS KSI KSI
