Saharanpur (UP), Jul 1 (PTI) An 18-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after an argument with her mother over the phone in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district on Wednesday, police said.
The incident took place in the New Nand Vihar Colony on Dehradun Road under the Janakpuri police station limits.
Station House Officer (SHO) Nem Chand Singh told PTI that Simran was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room with the help of a scarf. Her brother and neighbours informed the police, following which a team reached the spot.
According to the SHO, Simran’s mother works in Gujarat. Family members told police that the mother and daughter had spoken over the phone earlier in the day and the conversation reportedly turned into an argument.
After disconnecting the call, Simran went to her room. When her brother entered the room some time later, he found her hanging, the police said.
The body has been sent to the mortuary, while a forensic team has collected evidence from the scene, the SHO said.
He added that Simran’s mother is on her way to Saharanpur from Gujarat.
The police said further action would be taken based on the post-mortem report and the findings of the investigation. PTI COR KIS APL APL
