Bijnor (UP), May 4 (PTI) A woman attempted to set herself on fire outside a police station in Bijnor district after her husband was arrested on a court warrant, police said on Monday.

Circle Officer (Najibabad) Anjani Kumar Chaturvedi said that Balvendra Deshwal, a resident of Gaonri village within the Mandawali police station limits, was arrested on Sunday evening on a court warrant in an old case.

Soon, his wife Anuradha reached the police station and created a ruckus, demanding his release.

She poured petrol on her clothes and attempted self-immolation, but police personnel present at the spot foiled the attempt, the officer said.

Police have arrested Anuradha on charges of attempted suicide and breach of peace. An SDM court has remanded her to judicial custody, Chaturvedi said. PTI COR ABN ABN ARI ARI
