Lucknow, May 1 (PTI) Extending greetings to people on Buddha Purnima, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said the sacred land of Uttar Pradesh had given the world the message of truth, peace and welfare of humanity.

Former chief ministers Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati also wished people on the auspicious occasion.

Wishing people in an X post, Adityanath said, “It was from the divine land of Uttar Pradesh that Lord Buddha gave the message of truth, peace, and the welfare of humanity to the entire world.” He added, “Let us follow the path of global brotherhood and coexistence shown by him, and internalise his thoughts and ideals.” Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati paid tributes to Gautama Buddha and extended greetings to his followers.

In her post on X, Mayawati said Buddha’s teachings of truth, non-violence and humanity brought global recognition and respect to India, and wished people a life filled with peace, harmony and prosperity.

The former chief minister said true “raj dharma” lies in sincerely following the path shown by Buddha to make people’s lives happy and prosperous, adding that this can be achieved only when governments ensure there is no gap between their words and actions.

The BSP leader also stressed that “governments must guarantee the safety of life, property and religious freedom of people of all faiths,” calling it a true tribute to Buddha.

Referring to the principle of “Appa Deepo Bhava” (be your own light), she said, “Education and self-upliftment are key to making the country self-reliant and great”.

Samajwadi Party chief Yadav also shared a picture of Lord Buddha on X and conveyed best wishes to people on the occasion. PTI KIS RUK RUK
