Lucknow, Oct 21 (PTI) Over the past year, the UP police helped freeze Rs 635 crore in bank accounts linked to cybercrime cases, while road accidents and fatalities fell by 9 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively, in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year, DGP Rajeev Krishna said on Wednesday.

Addressing a programme on Police Commemoration Day, Krishna said police had set 10 priorities to improve its functioning, with a focus on the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime and criminals under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

“Several of these priorities have been successfully implemented on the ground,” he said, adding that efforts have focused on curbing petty crimes alongside action against gangsters and mafias.

Krishna said freezing Rs 635 crore in funds across various banks in cybercrime-related cases over the past year helped protect the money of thousands of people.

The DGP said road safety measures, including the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) initiative, helped reduce accidents and deaths. “Compared with the first half of 2025, road accidents declined by nine per cent and fatalities by 10 per cent in the first half of 2026,” he said, adding that the efforts helped save more than 1,000 lives.

On action against drug trafficking, Krishna said police were targeting not only traffickers but also their networks, illicit earnings and the means used for smuggling.

“More than 6,000 drug traffickers have been arrested so far in 2026,” he said.

The DGP said over 36,000 kilograms of narcotic substances had been seized and 26 cartels dismantled.

Krishna also said the Uttar Pradesh Police had become the first department in the country to complete one crore courses on the iGOT Karmayogi portal. PTI KIS ASD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
