Meerut, Jun 14 (PTI) Police conducted a special verification drive in the Sadar Bazar area of Meerut to verify the identities of people from outside districts and states who are residing temporarily in slum settlements, officials said on Sunday.
According to police, the drive was carried out on June 12 and 13 on the instructions of the SSP, under the supervision of the SP (city) and the Cantonment circle officer.
Personnel from Sadar Bazar police station and the reserve police force jointly participated in the exercise.
Police said they had been receiving information that members of certain nomadic communities and other individuals from different districts had set up temporary huts and shanties on vacant land in and around the Sadar Bazar area.
During the operation, police teams visited various locations and collected details of residents, including their names, addresses, native places, mobile phone numbers and identity-related documents. The information was verified on the spot, officials said.
Authorities said police also verified identities and checked for any possible criminal background of the individuals.
Police further advised residents to help maintain law and order, immediately report any suspicious person or activity, and avoid accommodating outsiders without proper verification.
According to officials, details of all verified individuals have been entered into police station records to facilitate identification and verification whenever required in the future. PTI COR CDN PRK
