Kushinagar (UP), Aug 19 (PTI) A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh for killing his wife and son by setting them on fire, a prosecution official said on Wednesday.

Additional District Government Counsel K K Pandey said the incident took place on the night of June 23, 2022, in Farad Mundera village under the Kaptanganj police station area.

Ram Samujh Sahani poured petrol on his wife Subhavati (30) while she was sleeping, daughter Muskan (10), sons Arun (two-and-a-half years) and Ankit, and set them on fire before fleeing, Pandey said.

All four suffered serious burn injuries, and Subhavati and Arun later died during treatment, he said.

The police registered a case and subsequently filed a charge sheet in the matter, the prosecution said.

Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) Satyapal Singh convicted Sahani of killing his wife and son and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with the fine on Tuesday, Pandey said. PTI COR KIS MNK MNK
