Barabanki (UP), Apr 16 (PTI) Movement of heavy vehicles has been diverted on the Barabanki-Bahraich route following the start of repair work on the Sanjay Setu over the Ghaghra River, police said on Thursday.
Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya said heavy vehicles will remain completely prohibited on National Highway-927 between Barabanki and Bahraich from April 16 for the next two months.
The bridge, located in the Ramnagar police station area, is undergoing repairs, necessitating the diversion, he said.
Emergency services such as ambulances and other essential vehicles will be exempted from the restrictions.
The police have arranged an alternative route for heavy vehicles travelling from Barabanki towards Gonda or Bahraich via Sitapur (Chahlari Ghat) and Ayodhya.
For light vehicles, including two-wheelers, cars and autos, movement has been facilitated through a pontoon bridge over the Ghaghra river.
To ensure smooth traffic management, police personnel have been deployed in two shifts at key junctions, including Chaupula, Ramnagar Tiraaha, Chaukaghat, Safdarganj crossing and Badosarai crossing.
Officials said the operationalisation of the pontoon bridge has eased long-standing commuting difficulties for residents and is expected to reduce travel time in the surrounding areas. PTI COR ABN SMV APL
