Varanasi, Apr 20 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government plans to install digital luggage lockers for visitors at temples and along the Ganga River in Varanasi, officials said on Monday. The facility will be introduced around the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and nearby ghats to ensure that devotees can move freely without worrying about their valuables, according to an official statement. A total of 225 digital lockers across four categories— small, medium, large, and extra-large— are proposed to be installed at locations including Dashashwamedh Plaza, Godowlia, Town Hall, and Beniabagh parking areas, it said. “These lockers will be capable of safely storing items ranging from mobile phones and small bags to larger luggage, including suitcases. Digital payment facilities will also be available,” Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal said. The move is part of efforts by the UP government to improve infrastructure and provide modern amenities in one of the world’s oldest living cities, he added. PTI KIS MDO MPL MPL
