Lucknow, May 14 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all districts to send updates on storm, rain and lightning-related damage every three hours and asked officials to publicise relief measures, including compensation disbursal, on social media, an official statement said on Thursday.
Rain accompanied by thunderstorms swept Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, killing at least 89 people, injuring 53 and damaging 87 houses. As many as 114 livestock were also killed, according to officials.
“Districts have been instructed to send situation updates every three hours. Information regarding compensation distribution, rescue operations and other relief works should also be updated on social media platforms,” the statement said.
The chief minister took cognisance of the damage caused by storms, rain and lightning strikes across several parts of the state over the past nearly 24 hours and instructed officials to ensure immediate assistance to the affected families, it said.
According to the statement, reports of human casualties, livestock losses and crop damage have emerged from at least 19 districts, including Barabanki, Bahraich, Kanpur Dehat, Basti, Sambhal, Hardoi and Unnao. Several houses were also damaged due to inclement weather.
Adityanath condoled the loss of lives and directed district magistrates and other concerned officials to visit the affected areas and ensure prompt relief measures.
He also instructed officials to complete damage surveys on priority in coordination with the concerned departments so that compensation can be released without delay, the statement said.
The chief minister further asked all district magistrates to prioritise relief and rescue operations in the affected areas, it said. PTI KIS DIV DIV
