Ballia (UP), May 14 (PTI) A 65-year-old woman was killed and five others injured after they objected to a man grazing buffaloes in their field in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place in Kaithi Kala village under the Rasra Kotwali area on Wednesday evening, they said.

According to police, an argument broke out after Satyendra Kumar grazed buffaloes in a field belonging to Phoolvanti Devi. When the landowner’s mother-in-law, Bhagwati Devi, and her husband, Shambhu Rajbhar, objected, Stayendra hurled abuses and attacked them with sticks.

Satyendra then attacked Bhagwati’s son Suraj, allegedly molested her daughter, and beat up two others when they tried to intervene, police said.

Bhagwati Devi, who sustained serious injuries, died after the attack, police said.

Gupta said the body has been sent for a postmortem, and the injured have been admitted to a local government hospital.

He said a case has been registered on Phoolvanti’s complaint under the relevant provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further legal proceedings are underway, police said. PTI COR KIS KSI KSI
