Maharajganj (UP), Jul 6 (PTI) A court here on Monday sentenced a 62-year-old Chinese national to 11-month imprisonment for illegally entering India from Nepal, officials said.

The case dates back to August 10, 2025, when police in Sonauli on the India-Nepal border, spotted a suspected foreign national entering India from Nepal.

During interrogation, the person identified himself as Zhang Young and told police that he had visited Nepal and subsequently entered India without a valid visa.

Police registered a case under the Foreigners Act and filed a chargesheet before court.

During the trial, the court found Zhang Young, a resident of Shaanxia, Ningxia, China, guilty.

On Monday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Kumar Mishra sentenced the convict to 11 months of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.

In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict will have to undergo an additional one month of imprisonment, Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth said. PTI COR NAV ARB
