Lucknow, Oct 10 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday extended greetings for Shardiya Navratri to the people of the state and said the festival powerfully reflects Indian society’s faith in and reverence for ‘Matru-Shakti’.

Adityanath noted that a large numbers of devotees visit temples, Shaktipeeths and other major religious sites during Navratri and directed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for smooth darshan, cleanliness, lighting, drinking water and traffic management, according to a statement released here by the Uttar Pradesh government.

He also appealed to the devotees to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness within the temple complexes and surrounding areas, and to celebrate the Navratri festival with reverence, discipline, and harmony.

In his message, the chief minister said the worship of Goddess Durga has held a place of immense significance in the Indian Sanatan Dharma tradition since ancient times. “Goddess Durga is the presiding deity of ‘Shakti’. She is the primordial energy of the entire universe, and her infinite forms are linked to the functioning of creation and the welfare of the world,” he said.

He also said that the Navratri festival, celebrated twice a year, powerfully reflects Indian society’s faith in and reverence for ‘Matru-Shakti’ (the divine feminine power).

“This festival inspires us to tread the path of strength, spiritual practice, self-restraint, service, and public welfare. On the auspicious occasion of Sharadiya Navratri, the worship of Goddess Bhagwati infuses society with positive energy and fosters wishes for the well-being of all,” he said, according to the statement.

Adityanath expressed the hope that the sacred festival brings happiness, peace, and prosperity into everyone’s lives and said he has prayed to Goddess Durga for well-being of the people of the state. PTI NAV

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
