Lucknow, Apr 17 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak on Friday paid tributes to former prime minister late Chandra Shekhar on his 99th birth anniversary.
In a post on X in Hindi, Adityanath said, “A humble tribute on the birth anniversary of Shri Chandra Shekhar — a staunch socialist leader who emerged from mass struggles and a former prime minister of India.
“Your forthright personality, life of simplicity, and politics that placed national interest above everything else will forever remain a source of inspiration for Indian democracy.” Maurya hailed Chandra Shekhar as a popular mass leader and eloquent orator, while Pathak remembered the contributions of the former prime minister on the occasion.
The Samajwadi Party and the Congress also paid tributes to the late leader in separate posts, praising Chandra Shekhar’s ideological steadfastness, simplicity and unwavering struggle for public causes.
Known for his mass connect and socialist ideals, Chandra Shekhar served as the eighth prime minister of India from November 1990 to March 1991.
