New Delhi: Delhi cops have arrested a man accused of killing his newborn female twins.

Neeraj Solanki, 32 and a resident of Pooth Kalan in Delhi, was arrested from Sampla in Haryana’s Rohtak. According to the police, the accused had been evading arrest by regularly changing his location since the matter came to light.

On 3 June, the accused’s kin had called the Sultanpuri station alleging that Solanki, who had wished for a male child, had killed his three-day old twins and buried them.

Police teams were deployed at the cremation ground where the children were buried and permission was taken to exhume the twins. On 5 June, the bodies were disinterred and a postmortem was conducted the next day.

On the basis of mother Pooja Solanki’s complaint, an FIR was registered for murder. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Amit Goel said the accused kept changing his mobile handset, SIM cards and hideouts to evade the police.

“The team conducted raids at various places in Delhi and Haryana in search of the accused. Accused Neeraj Solanki was apprehended from Sampla in Rohtak, Haryana. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the above-mentioned case and, subsequently, he was arrested under appropriate sections of the law,” Goel said.

The twins were born on 30 May in Haryana’s Rohtak. Neeraj allegedly picked up the infants from hospital, saying he was taking them home when Pooja was discharged at the same time.

The couple was married in 2022. Pooja, in her complaint, also mentioned that her husband had demanded dowry and harassed her in the past, according to sources. She added that her in-laws were unhappy with the girl twins and that she had also been forced to undergo sex determination test.
