Deoria (UP), May 31 (PTI) Two youths were killed after being hit by a train on the Deoria-Gorakhpur rail section here on Sunday, police said, adding that they were sitting on the tracks after allegedly consuming intoxicants.
The incident occurred near Mehra village under Deoria Kotwali area, where Kishan (18) and an unidentified man aged around 24 years died after being run over by a train.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and, during the investigation, recovered packets of suspected cannabis from the deceased.
Based on the recovery, police suspect that the two youths were sitting on the railway track consuming intoxicants when they were struck by the train.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, sources said.
However, family members of Kishan claimed that he had left home to take his ailing grandmother to Gorakhpur Medical College for treatment.
