Erode (Tamil Nadu), Aug 19 (PTI) Two persons found cutting sandalwood trees raised on private land have been arrested in this district, forest officials said.
The accused, identified as Senthilkumar (aged 35) and Loganathan (aged 27) of Trichirapalli district, were found on Tuesday cutting sandalwood trees raised on the land of Errannan of Eeratti forest area under the Burgur Forest Range, they added.
On seeing the accused cutting trees, the owner of the land, with the help of neighbours, caught hold of them and informed the forest department.
Forest personnel arrived there and secured the duo, and they were slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000 each, officials added. PTI ADB
